Sunday Screening – Cognito BMW R75 Build

Our friends over at Cognito Moto have been toiling away on their latest custom BMW R75 project. The project was completed in a super fast 6 week turn around in order to showcase it at the 2019 EuroBike Raleigh. To share the process they documented the entire build on their Youtube channel. So, for this weeks ‘Sunday Screening,’ I’ve pulled together a couple of my favourite episodes from their BMW R75/5 build series.

In the lead up to this episode, Cognito Moto had already swapped the R75s front end with a set of BMW R Nine T forks using a few conversion parts from their catalogue. They’ve also installed a longer R75/6 swingarm, custom wheels and hubs, R Nine T brakes, Ohlins shocks, exhaust system and a custom rear subframe. In this episode, Cognito Moto frontman Devin Henriques walks us through the process of building and shaping your own seat pan ready for an upholsterer to cover. He then demonstrates the installation of an LED projector headlight and a set of Cognito rear-set footpegs to their custom BMW R75.

Once they had their seat pan and foam ready to go Cognito sent it off to be upholstered. For this task, they paid Ginger McCabe from New Church Moto a visit. Ginger is an expert in her trade with over 30 years of experience pushing a needle and thread. Over the past 10 years, she’s focused her efforts on upholstering motorcycle seats. In this episode, Ginger shares the story of her business and demonstrates the upholstery process of Cognito Moto’s custom BMW R75 seat from start to finish.

You can watch the rest of the custom BMW R75 build series on the Cognito Moto Youtube channel. If you’re considering making any of these modifications to your motorcycle be sure to contact Devin and the team at Cognito Moto. Their parts are top-notch and they are happy to advise you on the best way to get the job done.
