If you’re the kind of motorcyclist who rides rain, hail or shine you know how important purpose-built riding gear can be. You’ll also know waterproof gear tends to be bulky and a lot less visually appealing than regular gear. After a decade of reviewing riding gear, RevZilla co-founder Matt Kull and his team launched their own brand, REAX. Amongst their range of great looking, performance-focused gear are the REAX Ridge Waterproof gloves.
The REAX Ridge Waterproof gloves are a gauntlet style glove well suited to cooler conditions and wet weather riding. The main chassis of each glove uses an all-leather construction. The backhand is cowhide while the palm is sturdy goat leather. For comfort and to allow for adjustment the gauntlet on the wrist uses a mix of stretch poly material and leather and the gloves secure using 2 velcro fastners.
Along with the natural protection provided by the leather, REAX has installed Superfabric, a highly abrasion-resistant tech fabric, into each palm to bolster protective performance. Flip the gloves over and you’ll find knuckle armour beneath the leather surface to deliver a comprehensive protection offering.
The REAX Ridge Waterproof gloves most important task is keeping your hands dry and warm. To do this the interior of each glove has a McFit bonded waterproof liner. The waterproof liner offers a breathable water barrier that is designed to keep rain out in even the most extreme conditions. An additional moisture-wicking poly tricot liner works to prevent the build-up of sweat.
Another considered design aspect of the REAX Ridge Waterproof gloves is their pre-curved finish. By pre-curving the fingers REAX has minimised fatigue in the hands so you can enjoy all-day riding comfort. To round things out they’ve added reflective highlights which are a welcome addition when riding in inclement weather. The forefinger and thumb of each glove are also touchscreen capable for added convenience.
The finished result is an appropriately protective, streamlined motorcycle glove that offers the added benefit of waterproofing. What’s really great here though is that REAX is confident in the quality of their product; attested by a 2-year warranty on materials and workmanship.
