If you’re in to the custom scene or stay up to date with motorcycle news you would have already heard of Mac Motorcycles by now. They’ve created a bit of hype online and when you take a look at their Buell powered range of “non-conformist” styled motorcycles you’ll see why.
Here’s the brief the founders of Mac Motorcycles set themselves:
- Simple to maintain.
- Nothing surplus-to-requirements.
- Chopper and bobber references/details.
- The lines of a rigid frame but with suspension.
- Use a Buell ‘Blast’ motor and exploit its shape.
- Harley posture, flat-tracker manners, Ducati handling.
- Exploit the power-to-weight ratio of a 500cc single in a lightweight chassis.
- A return to the spirit of motorcycling – the journey is the experience / story.
Launching with a 4 bike range differing mainly in their appearance, exhaust set up and rear suspension the bikes are basic and beautiful. Grab yourself a bib…
The Spud: “You know the sort of thing, cut stuff off so it’ll go faster in a straight line, we think of it as a bike for mooching about the lanes and streets on, feet forward, grin on your face, sit-up-and-beg – you can call it a ‘Bobber’ if you like… we call it ‘Spud’.”
Pea Shooter: “Call your mates, grab your bike and ride to your favourite place for a beer and a good natter… put the world to rights and blast home again, you could call it a cafe-racer but to us it’s a ‘Peashooter’.”
Ruby: “My first girlfriend was called ‘Ruby’ we were in junior school together, you know the sort, ‘the-girl-next-door’, always around, everyone liked her and she was your soul mate too. Say hello to Ruby, she’ll always be my first love.”
Roarer: “When dinosaurs ruled the earth… The pre-war glory days. The enthusiastic amateur. The experimental Works Special.”
The 492cc Buell thumper churns out around 34hp stock but Mac claim to have tweaked them to around 50hp which when combined with their lightweight (and very good looking) frame is sure to put a grin on any riders face. The Buell motor truly is a work of art rarely seen in this light.
The bikes will retail for between $12,700 to $16,000 USD which seems quite reasonable consider the small production numbers. Keep an eye on these guys. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of their bikes in the future.
